For Parents

How we guide children through global admissions
— to choose wisely and thrive.

Many parents come to us with the same intention: to help — sincerely, thoughtfully, from the heart. You want to protect your child, open doors, and invest wisely in a future that feels safe and meaningful.

Yet today’s admissions landscape is more complex than ever: global competition, fast-changing requirements, rising costs, and an abundance of information that isn’t always reliable. For parents, this creates a unique challenge — how to support your child’s independence while ensuring the decision is thoughtful, safe, and financially sound. Add to that the pressure young people feel today — performance, comparison, anxiety, and fear of choosing “wrong.”

Helping your child discover what truly fits their potential, what they’ll genuinely enjoy (and stay motivated in), and what can lead to strong career opportunities — while also feeling confident about your return on investment — can feel like a very difficult task.

It is a challenge — and it’s exactly where EdKompas comes in.

As the #1 Polish agency with the largest portfolio of Swiss partner universities, EdKompas offers schools exceptional insight into Swiss higher education — while also providing strategic, up-to-date guidance on admissions pathways and academic opportunities worldwide. With nearly a decade of admissions experience across different roles, we understand what universities look for, how selection decisions are made, and how to build a strong, realistic strategy. We help families identify best-fit majors and pathways (often including options they didn’t even know existed), evaluate admission chances, and bring structure to every step of the process — from planning and deadlines to documents, applications, and pre-departure preparation.

Your child can study abroad with peace, calm, and without pressure. It can — and should — be an enriching, confidence-building experience.

What are 9 widely believed myths about studying abroad?

Myth 1:
“Rankings = the best choice.”

Reality: Rankings don’t show whether your child will thrive. Fit matters more: teaching style, student support, culture, costs, and outcomes in their specific field.

Myth 4:
“A famous university guarantees a great job.”

Reality: Employability depends on major choice, internships, projects, networking, languages, and how actively a student uses opportunities — not only the brand name.

Myth 7:
“STEM is always the safest return on investment.”

Reality: STEM is a great option for many students — but it’s not the only one. The strongest ROI usually comes from the right mix of strengths, genuine interest, and market-relevant skills.

Myth 2:
“One wrong major ruins everything.”

Reality: Direction often evolves. What protects the future is building strong foundations: transferable skills, clarity, and a realistic pathway — not a “perfect” choice at 16–18.

Myth 5:
“Apply to as many universities as possible.”

Reality: A strategic shortlist (reach/match/safety) leads to better essays, better preparation, and less stress.

Myth 8:
“They must be perfectly fluent in English.”

Reality: Perfection is not required. They need the university’s required level, and their English will improve quickly with immersion and a clear preparation plan.

Myth 3:
“Studying abroad is only for wealthy families.”

Reality: There are cost-smart options (public universities, lower-cost countries, scholarships, hybrid pathways). The key is early financial planning and the right strategy.

Myth 6:
“They’re smart - they’ll figure it out alone.”

Reality: Even top students can struggle with decision overload, deadlines, testing, essays, and motivation dips.

Myth 9:
“If my child goes abroad, they’ll be unsafe.”

Reality: Safety depends more on city, housing choices, routines, and support systems than on “abroad vs home.”
